Let’s look at what oral appliance therapy is and how it can benefit you.

What is Oral Appliance Therapy?

Oral appliance therapy is designed to help improve sleep apnea and allow you to sleep better at night. You will only wear the appliance when you sleep and it fits and looks like a mouth guard. The appliance works to keep your jaw in a forward position, so that your airway remains open as you sleep. Oral appliance has been shown to be an effective way to put an end to obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.

Your Consultation and First Visit at Our La Habra Dental Office

When you come into our La Habra dental office, you will speak with Dr. Cho about your sleep apnea and explain your symptoms to him. He will work closely with you to determine if oral appliance therapy is the right treatment for you. You will go over the benefits of treatment together and talk about the cost of the appliance. In addition, Dr. Cho will inform you of any side effects and things you need to think about before you choose this treatment option.

Once it is decided that this is the correct treatment for you, you will have a thorough oral exam. During this exam, Dr. Cho will look at your mouth, jaw, airway, teeth, and tongue. If a new x-ray is needed, we will let you know now as well.

Your oral appliance will be created using physical means based on an impression of your teeth that is taken by Dr. Cho. Once the appliance is made, you will come back into our office to have it fitted. Dr. Cho will be able to adjust the appliance to make sure that you are comfortable with the way it feels.

You will need to have follow up visits with Dr. Cho to ensure that your appliance fits properly and continues to provide you with the support you need to have a good night’s sleep.
